Fjola Hart Wasekeesikaw: Fjola Hart Wasekeesikaw considers herself to be a ‘bridge’ in the facilitation of understanding of cultural competence and cultural safety in the provision of nursing care to Canadian Aboriginal populations. She is the principal author of the documents - Cultural Competence and Cultural Safety in Nursing Education: A Framework for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Nursing and Cultural Competence and Cultural Safety in First Nations, Inuit and Métis Nursing Education: An Integrated Review of the Literature. Both documents were created as result of a partnership between the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada (ANAC), Canadian Association Schools of Nursing and the Canadian Nurses Association. More recently, Ms Hart Wasekeesikaw assisted the Canadian Healthcare Association in their development of the “Cultural Competence and Cultural Safety in Health” course designed to provide training to health care professionals who work in Aboriginal settings and with First Nation, Inuit and Métis peoples. |
